With Valentine's right around the corner, I knew I wanted to make something festive for my girls to wear. I'm not sure how long they will want to wear 'holiday attire', so I have to take full advantage of it now. :)
While I was at a fabric shop over Christmas, I came across this lovely ruffled fabric. And I had a 50% off (score!). I asked the woman who was cutting the fabric for a few tips. I couldn't believe how simple it sounded to make a skirt for my little girls out of this fabric.

**For my 6 year old I cut my fabric & elastic to 23 1/2 inches. No need to add more beyond the 1/2 seam allowance, since it is a stretchy fabric.
When cutting ruffled fabric, I found it is best to cut by hand, since you want to make sure to not cut through a ruffle.
Only three places to sew, & you have a finished skirt! Ruffle Fabric can be kind of expensive (mine was $19.99/yard), so I would suggest using a coupon or watching for a sale. I was able to get 2 skirts (for a 4 & 6 year old) out of one yard, with left over fabric.
So happy this was a simple sewing project. It seems those are the only kind I can get to these days, between carpooling three little ones around. :)
I will definitely use more ruffled fabric in the future!
