Stenciled Corkboard

When the other hosts & I decided on what the challenge would be for month two of our Pinspired & Rewired series, I was super excited when we chose stencils.  I had a great time stenciling my desk top a few months back, & I knew exactly what I wanted to create this time.

I was in need of some help organizing my jewelry.  It was a mess, let's face it.  I had lots of different pieces that were lost in the mix, hence never got worn.
So when I came across this lovely idea of hanging your jewelry AND making it look pretty, I was all in. :)

My 'pinspiration' came from this lovely piece made by Designamour

And if you want to make a pretty little piece for yourself, here's the details..

Supplies needed:
Corkboard--bought @ Michaels with coupon
Paint--two colors
Stencil
Push pins

I used my trusty Valspar paint to get a bright white base coat

Then moved on to my Craftsmart Acrylic Paint--Robin egg Blue

Cutting Edge Stencils generously provided this stencil to me.  I have worked with their stencils in the past & have gotten great results, so I knew this would work just wonderfully.

I chose the Mermaid Allover Stencil

Before I get started, don't make the mistake that I made & NOT cover your workspace with some sort of protecting covering, what was I thinking??  I was very, very careful & didn't have any issues, but I could have ended up with a blue table. :)

WITH your protective covering on your workspace, tape your stencil to your board.
When stenciling, it is always a good idea to have baby wipes near by, they may become your best friend. :)

Dip & roll your roller in paint, then on a paper towel, blot off the excess. Thin layers are the key to making it precise & not having paint get under the stencil.

Continue over your entire area until it is all covered with even layers of paint.
When you are finished, remove the tape & your stencil, and fix any areas where the paint may have smeared--baby wipes. :)

After it was dry, I stuck my push pins at the top of the board.  I actually didn't realize how many necklaces I had, since they had been hidden in my jewelry box for so long--don't let my husband know that though. :)

Definitely check out Cutting Edge Stencils if you would like to give stenciling a try.
I love that their products are so userfriendly--makes my life a lot easier. :)

Such a cute way to display necklaces!! Half of mine are on a mug holder and the other half are thrown into a jewelry box...this might be a better way to organize them:-) Thanks for the inspiration!

What a great idea!! Love this look to organize/display jewelry, but I also just think it's brilliant to stencil the corkboard. Another way to use it instead of covering it in fabric to get a stylish look. Thanks for sharing!!
