What I Know--{Lolly Jane}

Hello friends,
I'm so excited to have two very lovely ladies here today. They run an amazing blog & I adore their work so much, I know you will too!

Hi Southern Lovely readers! We're excited to be guesting for cute Lindsay today.

Before we get started, we want to introduce ourselves. We are twin sisters, Kelli and Kristi who run a DIY craft blog, Lolly Jane.

We share tutorials about crafts, home improvement, family life and the occasional baked good. But as part of Lindsay's What I Know Series...we are excited to share what we've learned about revamping furniture!

Kristi loves a good paper craft but Kelli adores anything with wood. Although we surely aren't professionals, we are proud to say we aren't afraid to try new things. A little paint can be the biggest transformation you need.

Take this turquoise hutch for example, when we got it off Craigslist for $50, we knew it needed a lot of TLC.
We painted it turquoise then distressed it with sandpaper. After breaking out those side windows, we replaced them with chicken wire. We also covered the back in beadboard wallpaper and replaced the glass shelves with real beadboard then topped her off by filling in the old handle holes and created new ones for our pretty oversized crystal knobs. The total cost? Just $55!

This craft hutch was a lot of fun to re-vamp as well.
After a fresh coat of white paint and a wallpapered back, we added new handles and filled her up with organized mason jars and more craft goods.

If you're feeling brave enough to build your own furniture, this rustic stamped bench is a good start.
We got the design from Ana-White.com but threw in a twist to customize it. We stained one layer on the raw bench seat, added a wedding date and location then stained a second layer. The final effect was a subtle reminder of our anniversary.

Lately we've been experimenting with mixing paints and stains and this Chippy Dresser is a result.

We bought it for $175 on Craigslist then got to work stripping it down to the bones. A few layers of white paint, a walnut stained top and lots of chippiness completed this sturdy dresser.

The best is to take a piece of furniture that's on it's last leg and giving it a new purpose. This coffee table turned bench was so fun to revamp!
Instead of throwing the broken coffee table into the garbage pile, we secured the joints, sanded it down, painted it a new color and created a seat to make a new bench.

I hope we've inspired you to give old furniture a second thought. With a little bit of paint, you can spruce up old wood and if you hate it?-simply paint it again.

We hope you'll catch up with us on FB, Twitter or Pinterest ! Thanks so much again, Lindsay, for letting us share a little of what we know (:

XOXO,
Kelli + Kristi

I don't know about you all, but I need to get on Craigslist ASAP. :) Weren't those transformations amazing?? So inspiring!
Thanks for sharing here, Kelli & Kristi!

Wow! Not sure how I ended up here, but my name is Lindsay from The Cottage Home blog. We have so many similarities - our name, two little girls and a baby boy, and a passion for creating. If you get a chance, stop by and say hello!
