Reflection

Hello friends.
This little blog of mine is turning one soon. It's kind of hard for me to remember what it was like before this. What did I do with all that extra time?? It's funny that I started this around the time I had my little boy. Who knew this would turn into another of my 'babies', so to speak. I love this space, it makes me happy. It is not only a stress release, it has become a place where I have so many fun new friends.

I thought I would share some of my thoughts about this blog, and what I have learned over the past year.

When I started out, I had no idea what I was doing. I would post here & there, not with any sort of structure. Then I decided to try my first link party, and that's when it all happened. I received my first feature, someone out in the blogging world actually thought my stuff was good enough to share with their readers. It was a huge boost of confidence. So I continued to link up at different parties. It was fun. I enjoyed stopping by other blogs and leaving comments.

One experience sticks out to me about visiting other sites. I got this comment on my blog saying, 'I'm your newest follower, please follow me back'. So I did, and a week later I got the same comment from the same blogger. Obviously that person was just trying to gain more followers, and didn't really care about the content on my blog. So I made a decision, I was not going to be that person. Someone who writes something on a blog just to gain a reader. I am not a fake person, so why would I start being one online. I honestly try to leave comments when I feel like they are deserving of one AND I make them sincere, or at least I try.

It's hard not to want to compare yourself to other bloggers. But in all reality, you just can't. No two blogs are the same, some have been around a lot longer than yours, and there is no reason to get hung up on a number. I have to not worry about how many readers I have. I was surprised when people I didn't know actually started reading this. I truly strive to put the best content that I can on here.

And my absolute favorite thing about this blog of mine, is all the amazing friends I have met along the way. I feel like I know a lot of you, since you have become apart of my daily life. I love having the different relationships I have with you. It's great to have friends from various parts of the world. And the wonderful comments & emails I receive, completely make my day. Such a huge boost when I need it most.

So, to end this post of reflection, I want to say thanks.
Thanks to all of you who have reached out to me, I appreciate my readers so much.
I hope year two of Southern Lovely will be just as great!

Oh, and by the way, because I adore you all so much, I am throwing a celebration here starting March 12th. There are some amazing giveaways scheduled from some very generous sponsors. You guys are definitely going to get hooked up. :)

Oh I loved this post. My blog turned one yesterday too! I think we started just about the same time :) I totally agree with the not comparing yourself to other bloggers thing...that can be so easy to do in the beginning and is a sure way to get discouraged fast. I love your blog and you are one of the sweetest bloggers that I am now happy to call a friend!

I absolutely LOVE your blog!, You are the sweetest person ever! I hear ya on the "please follow me back" thing, I've gotten a couple of those. I need to get a lot better at leaving comments on other's blogs! I usually just read and forget to leave a comment or go back to working on the current design I am working on! I need to set time apart, because I LOVE getting comments and I am sure others too! CONGRATS on your first year friend! I am so glad I "met" you! :)

Thanks Lindsay for all you do. I love this post. I am also going to be hitting "1" soon (in March). However, I really think my blog came into its current form in August. So although I will celebrate 1 - 1 1/2 will have so much more meaning for me. You are phenomenal and definitely sincere.

Hi Lindsay,

Congrats. I, too, just celebrated a first birthday in blogl and! And, it's a wonderful place to be, isn'it?! Bloggers and gentle readers are so supportive of one another, and the endless creativity and sharing spirit never seems to amaze me. And, to think one year ago, I didn't even know what a blog was! Lol

I can't wait to see what you bring us this coming year. Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy...

Wishing you a beautiful day,
Linda at Beautiful Ideas

Yay for 1yr of amazing blogging! I adore your blog!
I cannot thank you enough for writing this post. Just last night I was getting hung up on the number and was wondering why in the world I was blogging... but then a great bloggy friend emailed just to say hi, and it hit me, I am in this to make friends, friends who share common interests and who above all else inspire and encourage me as a mom, wife and crafter!
Have a great great day Lindsay. You deserve it!!

Happy blog birthday, Lindsey! I've been a follower for a little while and I have to tell you that I just love your blogs. It's one of my favorites and I look forward to reading every day.
I too am new to blogging...about a year now. I try to write everyday but life has gotten in the way a little and haven't been able to be consistant with it.
I don't have too many "followers" on my actual page but I know there's a lot of people out ther who read b/c I post entries on facebook.
I get discouraged sometimes that I don't get comments and things like that. I sometimes feel "why am I doing this". Then I realize I do it for me. I love to write, craft, and cook...and stories about my kids are fun to write too.
Thanks for all the encouraging words. I will work on not comparing me and my blog to others that are so wonderful.
I'm so happy for you and your blog's birthday. Keep up the great writing and the cute crafts.

Lindsey, first of all, congratulations! Your blog rocks, and I love that you have worked so hard to improve it and host parties. Rock on!

Secondly, thank you so much for not being that person who wants a follow back. That was tough for me at first when I got those comments. I kept adding people and adding them and finally I realized they only cared about numbers and not about me or my content. I sometimes purge blogs in my reader, but you will stay.

Lindsay,

What a lovely post. I agree with your sentiments 100% about being authentic ...

I'm still trying to figure out why people leave comments on my posts and it's crystal clear that they haven't read a word of it!

:)

And your willingness to share life with your readers...real life...is what I totally love! I'm so excited to celebrate your first and totally looking forward to your second year!!! Congrats on the big One O ;) I have to agree with the commenting thing. Its really frustrating when you see those "please follow me comments". I'm not a fan and honestly I would rather them not comment at all. You shouldn't have to beg people to follow your blog ya know!

You are AWESOME Lindsay and I truly enjoy your blog and our little blog friendship! Your sweet comments make my day and you always leave one on every single one of my posts. It means a lot :)

You, my dear, are pretty freakin awesome. You probably know that but it is still fun to hear. I would give my hot glue gun to craft with you sometime, I would say arm but I haven't one arm crafted since I was nursing Avery :). Can't wait to see more from you in the future!
