Yellow {shelf}

So, I needed a change.

I've had the same decor in our front room for a few years now. And some of the pieces were looking a bit dated. The purchase of my new canvas sparked this change. I knew I had to display it in a nice, crisp area, where the focus was on t
he picture.

I decided to try my luck at painting & glazing a shelf that I purchased from Michaels.

I used my favorite, Rust-oleum Strawflower spray paint, for the shelf color. As for the glaze, I used Valspar tinted glaze.

To apply the glaze, go here for the detailed process. I simply used a sponge brush,
dabbed a little glaze on it, painted where I wanted the glaze to go, then wiped the excess off with a damp cloth.

It needed something else though, so I decided to add some beadboard. You can actually have it cut at Lowes, which makes it so convenient if you don't have access to a circular saw, or other saw. And to add it to the shelf, we simply applied liquid nails to secure it. It was really that easy.

With the shelf ready to go, I had fun adding accent pieces to it--with the canvas being the main attention piece.

I'm so happy with the change. It's really wonderful to be able to walk past this room & smile at the picture of my three children.

::Before & After::

Do you notice the new molding on the walls?? Maybe a painted pillow?? Yes, I will be posting those tutorials soon. Next on the list is the window box, but I'm afraid that will have to wait until after the new year, I am a little overbooked with projects right now. :)

Oh the yellow pops so much in here. I love yellow, so sunny! Especially now since there's very little sun in the day anymore. I'm never home when the sun's out except on weekends now!

This shelf is so cute, all yellow-ed up! I love your idea of adding the headboard, never in a million years would've thought of that; it adds the perfect charm! I would SO see myself making this with a few hooks/wooden pins added to hang coats and whatnot for the entrance.
