Tie {tutorial}

Aren't little boys in ties the absolute cutest?? Yeah, I think so too, and that is why I wanted to make a few ties for my little guy. I searched all over for a good pattern. Finally I came across this tutorial. It was very easy to follow & pretty much fool-proof, which was perfect for a beginner like myself. :)

Here we go--

1/4 yard fabric
1/4 yard light weight interfacing
3 1/2 in. velcro
large safety pin
thread to match fabric
scissors
iron
sewing machine

Print out your pattern, found here. I printed out A & B, since I was making a newborn tie. You can also make size 2-5T.

Now cut your fabric & interfacing using the pattern.
You will also need to cut a 2 1/2 x 17 in. strip.

Place the right sides together of the main tie piece & the interfacing. Sew a 1/4 in. seam, then flip right side out. Clip the corners so they lay evenly, then press.

Fold lengthwise, with interfacing, facing out. Sew along edge (1/4-1/2 in. seam allowance), and make sure to go through all 4 layers.

Press the seam open, then flip right-side out.

For the neck piece, fold lengthwise, right sides together, then sew along the edge. Take a safety pin & attach to one end to help pull through so that the right side is facing out.

Once it is right side out, push the ends in & stitch close. Sew the velcro on one end, then also on the other end, but the back side--they need to be able to connect.

This is where it gets a little tricky.
Try to follow the pictures as closely as possible, so you tie it correctly.

Hand stitch the neck strap to the knot, so it doesn't move.

There you go! Isn't it just adorable?? I will not have to purchase a tie for my son for a long time, since I can now make them myself!

By the way, I made a few more pillowcase dresses for the girls. What do you think?? I added a strip of fabric to the bottom of them to switch things up a bit.

Of course our little guy had to have coordinating tie, so I made that as well. I think I need to take a break from the sewing machine, it is taking up all my free time. :)

These are darling! And I am so happy that you explained in detail how to tie the knot and connect the tie to the neck strap because I always get so confused on that part. :) Thank you so much for linking up to Strut Your Stuff Saturday! We are so grateful for your support and we hope that you will be back tomorrow to share more great ideas!

Could you please post the pre-stitched dimensions of the parts A&B for the newborn and the next size up?
I am having a hard time determining what the actual size should be even when looking at the acrobat reader of the tutorial.
LxW of part A - at the top and at the bottom (I can then connect the lines)
LxW of Part B
I have two of these to get done before next Thur! lol....crafty people are also procrastinators too?
Tks!
